The roadblock consisted of three huge blocks of concrete. Two were on the upper side of the road and the third on the seaward side of the road, halfway between the other two. Thus they formed a triangle. A wire hawser was anchored at each end in the blocks on the upper side of the raod and looped through a curved slot in the centre block. The wire was unhooked to let vehicles pass. Also two barrel shaped concrete cylinders were rolled into place between the wire. After the war the block with the curved slot and the concrete cylinders were pushed into the East Voe and are still there today. At HU 45900 42060 on North Staney hill there is a row of AT Cubes and on its' own a cube by the road with the remains of a wire hawser protruding. It would seem likely that this is the remains of the same type of roadblock. There is evidence of a possible cube with curved slot although it is severly damaged.
